P11.8 Million Worth of Illegal Drugs Recovered in Buy-Bust Operation

On May 18, 2017 at 8:00PM in Purok 6, Brgy. Libertad, Butuan City, joint elements of City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU), BCPO, led by PSUPT ROWENA A MARTINEZ, Chief, Intel Branch/Team Leader, CDEU, together with Police Station 3 led by PCI SANDY D DACERA, Station Commander, PDEA Regional Office 13 led by IO3 Rodello Daguman, and 23rd IB, 4ID, PA, under the supervision of PSSUPT PERCIVAL AUGUSTUS P PLACER, CD, BCPO, conducted anti-illegal drug operations thru buy-bust at above-mentioned place against one Alias Opaw Abordo later known as Reynaldo Labares Abordo, 36 years old, married, with given address of P-1, Brgy. Sabangan, San Isidro, Davao del Norte.

During the operations, subject Abordo sent his trustee/messenger later known as Johny Villagonza Calawigan, 32 years old, single, resident of San Francisco, Agusan del Sur. Calawigan transacted with the poseur buyer and police asset. Upon consummation of the transaction, he was placed under arrest, handcuffed and asked on the location of subject Abordo. Upon learning that Abordo was waiting up ahead parked along the side of the road, the team immediately rushed to the described heavily tinted Ford Escape colored yellow bearing Plate Number XRA-738 and introduced themselves as police officers and ordered them to disembark from the vehicle. However, instead of heeding the instruction, a shot was fired from inside the vehicle aimed at the approaching officers and hit the confidential police asset causing gunshot wound in his left ribcage. The team returned fire while ordering the arrested, Calawigan to stay down.

As the team were trading fire with the suspects, one operative had to bring the wounded asset to a hospital. While seeking cover and returning fire, Calawigan in handcuff, managed to get in the driving seat and commandeered the unmarked vehicle of the operatives and sped off towards west direction. With this development, the operatives together with responding operatives of Police Station 3, tried to pursue the fleeing suspect onboard their vehicle but to no avail. Meanwhile, a team from the 23IB, Phil. Army, responded to the scene and kept watch of suspects’ vehicle (Ford). SWAT also arrived and cleared the suspects’ vehicle and its immediate surroundings. It was then that they found one casualty seated at the back seat right side portion. He was identified as Reynaldo Labares Abordo A.K.A. Opaw, the primary target of the buy-bust operation. The other occupants managed to escape from the scene but were eventually arrested after follow-up operations on information provided by the community.

Calawigan was arrested in the vicinity of P-9, Brgy. San Vicente, Butuan City and was brought to MJ Santos Hospital for medical treatment after incurring gunshot wounds in his body. Another suspect, Reneboy Maputol Guno was arrested in the vicinity of Brgy. Libertad, Butuan City and brought to Provincial Hospital for treatment after incurring gunshot wound in the body. One unidentified suspect is still at-large.

The crime scene was processed by the SOCO team led by PSI HAIDE SEDURO together with the investigator of this office. Aside from the buy-bust item (object of sale), one sachet of suspected shabu marked as “RLA-1”, the crime scene search conducted resulted to the confiscation of the following from suspects’ possession and control, to wit:

a. One pc Rectangular-shaped sachet of suspected shabu;
b. Eight pcs Knot-tied ice cellophane containing suspected
shabu (Big);
c. One pc Square-shaped of rectangular sizes of suspected
shabu (Big);
d. One unit Digital weighing scale;
e. One unit MyPhone cellphone colored white owned by
Abordo, damaged;
f. Two units Cellphone (Samsung white and Oppo white);
g. Several pieces drug paraphernalia;
h. Three pcs One Thousand peso bill (Php 3,000.00);
i. Cash money worth Php 1,860.00 (Calawigan);
j. One unit Ford Escape colored Yellow with plate number
XRA-738; and,
k. Four units Caliber .45 pistol (under custody of SOCO).

The search, seizure and processing were done in orderly manner duly witnessed by Mr. Edwin Bayer of Bombo Radyo;
Hon. Inocencio T Amora, Kagawad of Brgy. Libertad; and Mr. Ronaldo T Bedrijo, DOJ representative, and PSI HAIDE SEDURO, SOCO Team Leader.

Abordo’s remains was brought to Raniel Funeral Homes while Calawigan and Guno were brought to hospitals. Seized items were brought to this Office for proper disposition while the firearms are under custody of the SOCO. Violation of Sections 5, 11 and 12, Article II, RA 9165 are being prepared for filing in court against the suspects in inquest proceedings. Approximate weight of seized drug items is placed at around 1 kilogram with DDB value of Php11,800,000.00
