Last November 12, 2017, the half-naked body of Mabel Cama, who is bank employee in Pasig was found in an abandoned building about 40 meters away from her home.
According to witnesses, she was seen knocking on the gate of their house when unidentified men surrounded her.
Nearly a week after the discovery of her body, suspects were taken in by the police. One of the suspects was identified as Randy Oavenada who was a resident and an employee of the abandoned building.
Pasig Police Chief Senior Supt. Orlando Yebra confirmed that the suspect drug test turned out to be positive.
Given this fact, the father of Mabel couldn’t fight his grief when he was interviewed during the wake of his daughter.
The father, Reynaldo Cama admitted that he was disappointed with the Catholic’s Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) and Commission on Human Rights (CHR).
According to Reynaldo, he was dismayed because he hoped that the CHR or the CBCP would atleast help them with the case of Mabel. After all, Mabel was a victim of a person using illegal drugs. Isn’t this what the CHR and CBCP is fighting for?
It can be noted that the CHR and the CBCP were seeking their voices to be heard when there were killings happening in our country that has something to do with drugs. But when Oavenada was captured and was proven to be positive in drugs, the two agencies are quiet.
Reynaldo insisted that if it is indeed true that the job of CHR and CBCP is to fight for innocent and defenseless victims and individuals, then this should have been the perfect time to do it.
Mabel was raped, slayed and was even attempted to be burnt. She was defenseless against the truck driver who was positive in drugs.
