The Carolina Panthers have had a dreadful first half of the 2024 NFL season. Carolina is 2-7 heading into Week 10 coming off a surprise win against the Saints. The Panthers have dealt with a ton of drama this fall, including benching QB Bryce Young earlier this season. Carolina also became a seller at the NFL trade deadline, sending away Jonathan Mingo to the Cowboys. Thankfully, Carolina’s front office just locked up a key member of their offense on a long-term deal.
The Panthers have signed running back Chuba Hubbard to a four-year, $33.2 million contract extension per NFL Network’s Ian Rapaport. Hubbard gets a maximum contract value of $37.2 million with $15 million in new fully guaranteed money.
The extension will keep Hubbard in Carolina through the 2028 season.
Panthers GM Dan Morgan hinted at the deal on Wednesday according to the team’s official website. “We’re definitely working towards some stuff right now that we’re excited about,” Morgan said.
Hubbard had a breakout season in 2023 for the Panthers, rushing for 902 yards and five touchdowns. He is on pace to eclipse that season in 2024. Hubbard already has 133 carries for 665 yards and five touchdowns through only nine games.
Now the Panthers have Chuba Hubbard and rookie Jonathon Brooks as their backfield tandem moving forward.
Panthers make Bryce Young decision ahead of Germany game against Giants
The Panthers will keep Bryce Young at the helm as they travel to Germany to take on the Giants in Week 10.
Carolina named Young as their starting QB for Sunday’s game against the Giants, per Ari Meirov on Wednesday. This will be Young’s third consecutive start for the Panthers after being benched earlier this season.
This decision comes after Carolina pulled out a narrow victory against a reeling New Orleans team in Week 9. It seems that getting that win, in addition to his improved play, may have put Young back into the good graces of the coaching staff.
The 2024 season has been up and down for Young. Carolina turned to Andy Dalton after Young’s early struggles, but went back to him after Dalton suffered an unforeseen thumb injury in a car accident. Now Young is playing better than ever and is starting to show signs of development.
Bryce Young and the Panthers have a good chance to defeat the Giants in Week 10 and string together two consecutive wins. That would have seemed unthinkable earlier this fall.
Carolina heads into Week 10 as underdogs to New York, but they still have a solid chance to win.
