This afternoon, I visited New Janiuay, M’lang, North Cotabato where two young Asian-American solar-power technicians are putting up the first proto-type of a No-Inverter Solar-Powered Irrigation System.
What I saw I consider as the best gift I have this Christmas.
The system works and it could pump out between 600 to 800 gallons per minute, more than enough to submerge 3 to 4 hectares of rice fields in a day.
It is powered by 50 solar panels with a special gadget which would sustain power even when the sunlight is weak.
This project is a joint undertaking of the Dept. Of Agriculture and the local government of Mlang under Mayor Russel Abonado.
The proto-type in Mlang will now serve as the model for future Solar-Powered Irrigation Projects to be established in areas without irrigation systems.
The system could provide water to an estimated 100 hectares every planting season and would now allow farmers to plant 2.5 times in one year.
What is sensational about this system is that system could be established in just 2 weeks.
